Authors/Writers: Do you think of or refer to your Characters as your Book Children...+ 2 BQ?

Kind of... Not necessarily as children, but I feel accomplished for creating them.(: It took me about a year to write my first story. And it depends on the time travel. I don't like it when its done with a machine or something... sciencey, you know? I like it when its kind of magical, I guess.
