Open Office not saving files, will rate best answer. :)?

I have been using open office writer for years, but lately when I save a file it shows 0kb. And when I try to open it it asks about coding, and even when the coding is correct, it opens empty. Please Help. It seems to primarily do it to tables. Thanks!
